THE NEED FOR THE LUCILLE HUNTER FOUNDATION

As public schools work to address enrollment pressures and may suffer from funding gaps from the state and/or county, the Lucille Hunter Foundation was created as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to provide funding to prevent the loss of teaching positions; especially in the areas of the arts, AIG enrichment, and intervention. This is funding that the PTA cannot provide.

The Lucille Hunter Foundation was established in 2017, as part of the lead up to the School’s 90th year celebration. Since being founded, the Foundation has made meaningful contributions yearly.

Examples of historic impact include:

  • 27 National Teacher Board Certifications fully funded

  • 2 Teacher planning days supported by the Foundation funding substitute teachers

  • 2024-2025 full-time teaching position fully funded

History

Robert Jared Moore, Principal, Lucille Hunter Elementary

"As the principal of Hunter GT/AIG Basics Magnet Elementary School, I deeply value the significant impact the Lucille Hunter Foundation has made on both our staff and students since its inception. In collaboration with the Foundation Board, we are committed to nurturing and developing the gifts and talents of all our students. Together, we will continue to strengthen and enhance the high-quality programming we offer each year, ensuring our students and staff have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed."

Mr. Harvey, NBCT 5th Grade Teacher

“The initial cost to earn your Nationals Boards is outside the scope of what a teacher could afford; it’s practically a month’s wages. Yet, earning your National Boards can make the difference between staying in education or being forced to find a career with higher monetary rewards.”

Kerry Ann Martinez, NBCT Teacher

"Pursuing National Boards is not mandatory. Teachers choose this path. The National Board process allows teachers to reflect on their practice and their impact on students. Hunter has a large number of National Board certified teachers, in part, due to the generous financial support of The Hunter Foundation."
